Overview
Midwest Hash House Harriers, Inc (Midwest H3) is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants, regardless of race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, ability, age, body size, background, or hashing experience. This Code of Conduct applies to all events, communication platforms, and interactions associated with Midwest H3.
Core Principles
- Safety First: Participants are expected to look out for each other and to act in ways that minimize harm. Unsafe behavior—whether physical, emotional, or environmental—will not be tolerated.
- Consent Is Mandatory: All interactions must be consensual. This includes but is not limited to physical contact, jokes or comments of a sexual nature, taking or sharing photos, and participation in drinking games or trail activities. “No” means no. Silence is not consent. Consent may be revoked at any time. Intoxicated individuals cannot provide informed consent.
- Inclusion and Respect: We welcome and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC individuals, and all historically marginalized identities. Disrespectful, discriminatory, or exclusionary language or behavior will result in immediate intervention.
- Alcohol and Substance Use: While hashing traditions may involve alcohol, pressure to drink is strictly prohibited. Designated sober volunteers and resources will be available at major events. Participants must consume responsibly and are encouraged to look out for one another.
- Harassment and Bullying: Harassment, intimidation, threats, or repeated unwelcome conduct—whether in person or online—will not be tolerated. This includes stalking, verbal abuse, or targeting individuals for ridicule or isolation.
- Boundaries Matter: Respect personal, emotional, and physical boundaries at all times. This extends to dress, behavior, language, and personal space. Costumes or jokes that reinforce harmful stereotypes or cultural appropriation are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Reporting & Accountability
Anyone who experiences or witnesses a violation of this Code of Conduct is encouraged to report it to the event Safety Committee or an Organizer as soon as possible. Anonymous reporting options may be available depending on the event.
Reports will be taken seriously and investigated discreetly. Retaliation against anyone making a report in good faith is strictly forbidden.
Consequences for Violations
Consequences may include but are not limited to:
- Verbal or written warnings
- Removal from an event without refund
- Suspension from future events
- Permanent ban from Midwest H3 events and/or affiliated kennels
- In cases involving violence, assault, stalking, or other unlawful activity, law enforcement may be contacted and legal action pursued

We hash for fun, for community, and for change. Maintaining a safe, welcoming environment is everyone’s responsibility. By participating in Midwest H3 events or activities, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and hold others accountable with compassion and courage.
