🔥 Transgender History Month SpotlightBefore Stonewall, there was Compton’s Cafeteria.In August 1966, in the heart of San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, trans and queer residents stood up and fought back.The Compton’s Cafeteria Riots mark the first documented, large-scale uprising of transgender and queer people against police harassment in U.S. history. Sparked by ongoing mistreatment and police brutality, the riot began inside a 24-hour diner and quickly spilled into the streets—tables flipped, coffee thrown, windows shattered, and voices finally heard.Hundreds of residents joined in, waking up from nearby SROs or pouring out of clubs and bars to stand in solidarity.
